SMM panel script or hosted SMM panel: which one should you choose?

Every SMM panel runs on software. The real choice is who runs that software: you, on a server you manage, or a provider who hosts it for you. Both work. They cost different things.

The two options in one paragraph each

A script is panel software you buy (or download) and install on your own server. You own the copy, you choose the server, and every technical task is yours: installing, updating, securing, backing up and keeping it fast.

A hosted panel is panel software you rent. The provider runs it on their servers at your domain, with SSL, updates and backups included, and you pay a monthly fee. You manage the business from the admin area and never touch a server.

What a script really costs

The price of the script is only the first line. Count the rest as well:

  • A server, paid every month, and a bigger one as orders grow.
  • Your time or a developer's: installation, PHP and database updates, security patches, and fixing whatever breaks at night.
  • Backups you set up and actually test, somewhere other than the same server.
  • Performance work: a panel with a large order history and thousands of services needs tuning to stay fast.
  • Updates of the script itself, which may stop if the seller stops supporting it.

A script makes sense if you, or someone on your team, is comfortable running Linux servers and wants full control of the code.

What a hosted panel costs

A hosted panel replaces those lines with one monthly price. Check what it includes, because hosted offers differ: hosting, SSL, updates and backups should be part of it, and there should be no surprise when your panel gets busier.

Arty, for example, is priced by one number: the orders your panel received in a billing period. Plans start at $25 per month, there is no setup fee, and features do not come in tiers, so every panel gets the same product. Above 100,000 orders a month, each further 100,000 orders adds $25. The pricing page prints the full table, and the billing page explains the invoice, the payment window and what happens if a payment is late.

Control, and what you give up

With a script you can change any line of code. With a hosted panel you work inside the features it offers, plus settings, themes and your own content. For most panel owners the features matter more than the code: an order form and mass orders, subscriptions and drip-feed, refills and cancels, user levels and discounts, an affiliate program, tickets, a reseller API and staff accounts with permissions.

Before you choose, list what your panel must do on day one and check that the option you are considering does it today, not "soon".

Security and backups

A panel holds customer accounts, balances and provider keys, so a breach or a lost database is the worst thing that can happen to it. With a script, protecting it is your job: updates, firewall, admin two-step login, backups and a tested way to restore them. With a hosted panel it is the provider's job, so ask what they do.

Arty lists what exists rather than claiming certifications: backups and SSL are part of the service, the admin area supports two-step login, staff accounts get detailed permissions, and an activity log records what your team does.

Moving later

Whichever you pick, keep your own domain. Customers know your address, not your software, so a domain you own lets you move to other software later without losing them. Keep your own records too: your providers, your prices and the contact details of your best customers.

Which one suits you

  • Choose a script if you have server skills, want to change the code, and accept that uptime, updates and backups are your responsibility.
  • Choose a hosted panel if you want to spend your time on providers, prices and customers, and prefer one predictable monthly bill to a list of technical tasks.

You can look before you decide: the live demo shows the customer side and the admin side of a hosted Arty panel, and it resets every night. For the full first-day checklist, see how to start an SMM panel.
